Winefest. Wine. Yes.

One of the best things about working in an agency environment is that you have clients in dynamic and varied industries. This includes the wonderful world of wine! One of the awesome clients we proudly work with is Winefest. Winefest hosted two events in February in Edmonton and Calgary. They were incredibly successful with sold out evening shows in both cities.

Now I don’t know about you, but I love wine. I love the culture. I love the history. I love the taste. I love wine! The wine industry is especially interesting for a traveller like me because it truly is a global business; not only because there are wine regions around the world, but because they tend to influence each other. For instance, we worked with one exhibitor whose product hails from Argentina. He informed me that due to European influence, Argentina moved from a low-end grape to deliver economical wine for a domestic audience, to a “richer” grape to create the delicious Malbec, which has an international distribution.

There are also interesting histories of the wines featured at Winefest. One local Calgary businessman has seen great success in the construction industry but wanted to figure out a way to tie in his Italian roots. So he decided to develop two vineyards and create a wine brand as a new portfolio under his company’s umbrella.

It’s these takeaways that make Winefest such a delightful account to be involved with. Every day I learned something new working with our client and the exhibitors featured at the show. Winefest also allows us PR practitioners to get creative because the show expands across two cities. With two different markets, two different shows, and a huge array of media opportunities, we were able to look at various means of engaging the public through unique radio and television segment ideas. Over the course of the past few weeks, we coordinated client appearances about wine and food pairings, ‘Wine 101’, wines at breakfast, special occasion wines, the cultural angle of wine…I think you get the point! It has been an interesting and exciting account to be involved with and we can’t wait to do it again this spring in Banff with their bigger show – Rocky Mountain Wine and Food Festival!
