Brookline Helps to Launch Ice District

Brookline has planned and executed several large announcements for our client, the Edmonton Arena District, but none bigger than the launch of the official brand for the development. We knew the launch of the brand – Ice District – would be a major story in the Edmonton area and even across Canada.

The launch of the brand featured two events on July 13th, 2015, a VIP event in the morning followed by a media event for the public unveiling in the afternoon. Brookline oversaw event planning and media relations for both launch events, which also took place at and marked the official opening of Ice HQ.

Coordination of the VIP event, from save-the-dates through to thank-you gifts, saw Brookline manage setup and event flow and also hire and manage catering, A/V, DJ, security, and even an ice sculptor. Ice District partners, community officials, and executives including Daryl Katz, Darren Durstling of WAM Development Group, Bob Nicholson, CEO and Vice-Chair of Oilers Entertainment Group, Edmonton City Councillor Scott McKeen were treated to a breakfast and a private launch of the brand.

During the media event, Brookline coordinated media for the press conference, which saw more than a dozen outlets and over thirty members of the media in attendance. The event debuted the brand launch video, featured speeches from Bob Nicholson and Councillor McKeen, and even a ceremonial ice breaking in lieu of a ribbon cutting.

The launch of Ice District was leading news in every major outlet in Edmonton and was also covered extensively in Calgary and throughout national and trade publications. A total of 214 unique media stories were captured related to the launch of the brand. Local and regional outlets included Edmonton Journal, Global Edmonton, CBC Edmonton, Edmonton Sun, Metro Edmonton, CTV, Alberta Venture and several radio stations. National outlets that covered the news included The Globe and Mail, MSN, CBC, Global, TSN, Huffington Post, Buzzfeed, SportsNet and Yahoo! News, and more.

EAD Joint Venture Announces Delta Hotels and Resorts as Hotel Partner in the Edmonton Arena District

Brookline has had the opportunity to provide public relations support for the Edmonton Arena District (EAD) Joint Venture on some exciting projects, the most recent of which was the announcement of Delta Hotels and Resorts as the district’s hotel partner. Scheduled to open in early 2018, the new Delta Edmonton will become downtown Edmonton’s first newly constructed four-star, full service hotel in three decades.

The announcement was held at the Art Gallery of Alberta – a stunning space to match the contemporary architecture and innovative design of the EAD and the new hotel tower.


With media and important EAD partners in attendance, Katz Group Chairman Daryl Katz, Delta CEO Ken Greene and Edmonton Mayor Don Iveson all spoke about what this partnership means to the EAD and to Edmonton’s future.


The Delta Edmonton is one of many new Delta projects, including the recently opened Delta Waterloo, Delta Toronto opening at the end of November, and the addition of the new Delta Calgary International Airport that incorporate the company’s new elevated brand concept – one of the many reasons Delta was chosen as the EAD’s hotel partner.

The new Delta Edmonton tower will exceed 50 storeys in height – the hotel itself will occupy 26 storeys, with private condos above reaching into the skyline. The hotel will consist of 362 guest rooms and suites, and offer numerous upscale amenities, such as a luxury pool, outdoor terrace and expansive fitness facilities. It will house approximately 24,000 sq. ft. of state of the art ballroom, meeting, and conference space, with access to an outdoor area overlooking the EAD’s public plaza.


Construction of the hotel’s underground parkade is scheduled to begin in fall 2014, with main hotel tower construction scheduled for fall 2015.

Edmonton Arena District Joint Venture Announces Construction of Edmonton’s Tallest Tower

Brookline was excited to support the Edmonton Arena District (EAD) Joint Venture, between Katz Group and WAM Development Group, on their announcement of the construction of Edmonton’s newest and tallest tower and one of the tallest structures in Western Canada.

The new 62-storey tower, which will be located in the EAD on the corner of 102 street and 103 Avenue, will host Stantec as the anchor tenant.


For the announcement, Brookline organized an employee event in Stantec’s headquarters lobby, where hundreds of Stantec employees, partners and media showed up for EAD and Stantec’s exciting announcement.




The new building will feature a lobby that opens directly into the vibrant public plaza, providing easy access for all office employees to enjoy. The top of the tower will also include an iconic design element, representing the personality of the EAD.



Stantec chose the EAD as its new headquarters in response to the requests of their employees, including easy access to public transit in an amenity-rich location, and the desire to have a positive impact on rejuvenating Edmonton’s downtown community.
