Stantec Tower Officially Reaches Historic Heights as the Tallest Tower Outside of Toronto

Monday, December 3rd, 2018

Jenna Hamilton, Public Relations Assistant

It’s official! Edmonton is now home to the tallest tower outside of Toronto. On November 16th, ICE District celebrated the topping off of Stantec Tower, marking the structural completion of the building. Standing tall at 69-storeys, this impressive beacon has forever changed Edmonton’s skyline.

To mark this historic milestone, Brookline supported in planning a press conference on the 60th floor of Stantec Tower, where guests had the opportunity to see spectacular views of the city. The event included a short, formal program with remarks from Glen Scott from Katz Group Real Estate, Gord Johnston from Stantec and Councillor Mohinder Banga from the City of Edmonton. In commemoration of this milestone, ICE District partners and executives were invited to the stage for the symbolic signing of a beam, which is now ceremoniously displayed in the lobby of Stantec Tower.

Following the signing, those brave enough to go outside on the 68th floor to stand at the highest, coldest point outside of Russia (yes, you read that right) were invited for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, heading to the top of the tower to view Edmonton’s landscape from every angle. A view that only a few will have the opportunity to see atop Stantec Tower. Attendees could see the North Saskatchewan River from miles away, and look 251 metres down to see cars that were the size of ants.

Brookline’s media relations efforts resulted in 41 national media stories from several major outlets, and over 6 million impressions. The team was honoured to have been part of this historic milestone for ICE District, and is looking forward to celebrating the completion of SKY Residences atop Stantec Tower in the fall of 2019.

Thursday, November 22nd, 2018

Jayman BUILT (Jayman) was buzzing with activity and had us, as their agency of record, execute three events in one week. Never a team who backs down from a challenge, we banded together and dubbed the week the, “Week of Jayman” and hit the ground running on executing media relations tactics and event logistics for three high-profile events.

Starting off the Week of Jayman, we coordinated a media preview of the world-renowned dementia care model, at Jayman’s lake-side community in Mahogany, Westman Village. The Journey Club Memory Care Program located in Westman’s Journey Club Seniors’ Residences, is the second Calgary-based residence to implement the world-renowned, person-centered dementia care program, known as the Butterfly Program.

On Tuesday, October 9, Dr. David Sheard, Founder of Dementia Care Matters, led an interactive Q&A with media at Westman Village, followed by an exclusive tour of the Butterfly Care Homes at Journey Club. The residences boast vibrant colours and the stuff of life to create a cozy homelike environment for people living with dementia, with a focus on integrating compassion and emotion into the care homes. The innovative program drew interest from a number of Calgary’s primary media outlets, including, Global Calgary, CTV Calgary, Breakfast Television, CBC Calgary and CHQR 770.

Following the exciting Journey Club Memory Care Program launch, the team ventured back to Westman Village to host an exclusive menu tasting experience at the brand-new Headquarters Restaurant, located in the Journey Club Residences. Prominent Calgary media and influencers spent the event tasting a variety of locally-sourced cuisine influenced by the international food scene.

Executive Chef Jeremy O’Donnell entertained guests with an amazing eight-course dining experience as they embraced the beautifully-decorated dining room of Calgary’s newest fine dining restaurant. Among the favourites were the delicious Duck Confit Wontons with Saskatoon Port Gastrique and the Braised Lamb Shank.

Along with the meal, live piano music filled the room, courtesy of local musicians every Thursday through Saturday. Following the sit down meal, Chef Jeremy treated guests to a dessert feast, featuring a number of his most sought-after sweet treats, including the Warm Apple Strudel with Vanilla Sauce and the Double Chocolate Brownie, YUM!

Among attendees were representatives from the Calgary Herald, Avenue Magazine, Culinaire and Impact Magazine, along with Calgary influencers, Style by Aliya, Hungry Couple YYC, Baker’s Beans and Banhmiigirl. Along with an abundance of social media coverage across all platforms, Headquarters has been featured in both the Calgary Herald and Culinaire magazine to-date.

The Brookline team then headed north to Leduc to be on-site at Jayman’s grand opening of their showhome in Edgewater Estates. Built by Tamani Communities, sister company of Jayman, it is Leduc’s first gated community that provides home buyers with prestige and exclusivity along with a variety of amenities that lends to a modernized way of living while keeping a small-town feel.

Brookline secured a Spotlight on Success segment with CTV Edmonton during the day where the team toured the beautiful community and custom showhomes within. The evening invited members of the public to come and explore the new community and showhomes that featured food, drinks, live music and a presentation from Jayman BUILT CEO, Jay Westman and Tamani Communities VP, Cam Hart. The event was well received by the public and the media and garnered social media and traditional media coverage.

The three events secured over 25 individual media stories, with over 5.1 million impressions, in addition to extensive social media coverage. From program launches and restaurant openings to show home unveilings – the Brookline team had one busy, and fun-filled, week with Jayman.

September marks two milestones for ICE District as it continues to revitalize downtown Edmonton

Monday, October 29th, 2018

Jenna Hamilton, Public Relations Assistant

Brookline had the opportunity to assist in launching two events as ICE District continues to celebrate its evolving progress. Brookline was honoured to support in executing the highly-anticipated Stantec Tower Opening, as well as the exclusive media tour showcasing the latest developments of ICE District.

Stantec Tower Opening

On September 26, Stantec welcomed its employees into its new global headquarters in Stantec Tower, Canada’s tallest building outside of Toronto. Stantec Tower stands at 66 storeys high and serves as one of the key pillars in Edmonton’s vibrant ICE District. This monumental day celebrated Stantec’s architects and engineers who worked tirelessly over the past four years to get to this day, as well as its employees officially moving into their new home.

Stantec’s CEO, Gord Johnston, ICE District partners and executives including Daryl Katz of Katz Group, Glen Scott of Katz Group Real Estate, Darren Durstling of ONE Properties, Bob Nicholson of Oilers Entertainment Group and City of Edmonton Mayor Don Iveson were all present at the event. The event also paid tribute to four former Stantec CEOs in attendance for the opening.

The event had speeches from executives, a ribbon cutting with a photo opportunity and a sneak-peek look of some of the tower’s state-of-the-art amenities.

Brookline’s media relations efforts for the Stantec Opening resulted in over 9 million impressions, 61 media stories and coverage in several markets.

ICE District Construction Media Tour

The excitement didn’t stop there as the Brookline team hustled to launch the second ICE District event of the week, the ICE District Construction Media Tour. This tour welcomed all Edmonton and area media to partake in a comprehensive guided construction media tour of ICE District’s latest developments. The tour provided media the exclusive opportunity to capture footage and learn about the progress to-date of SKY Residences at ICE District (SKY Residences), JW Marriott Edmonton ICE District and the Public Plaza.

The first stop of the tour was at the suites of SKY Residences, atop of Stantec Tower. These contemporary suites include sky-high views and access to the premium amenity spaces that offer residents exclusive access to rooftop patios, outdoor fireplaces, a fitness centre and much more. Media toured the two show suites on the 31st floor of the tower and had a first-hand look at the sleek modern finishes and, of course, the premium Edmonton views.

Media were then taken to the JW Marriott Edmonton ICE District hotel where they were introduced to many new amenities including an outdoor BBQ, a cocktail bar and the hotel’s meeting spaces which were newly named after iconic Edmonton Oilers Alumni.

The last stop included an exclusive update on the ICE District Plaza (Plaza), slated to be the epicenter of energy in downtown Edmonton. Once completed in 2019, the Plaza will be able to host 8,000 people for year-round programming in the winter and summer months.

The media turnout for the tour included representatives from the Edmonton Journal, Edmonton Sun, Global News, CTV News, iNews 880 and 630 CHED. The tour secured 32 stories resulting in over 7 million impressions.
