Western Canada’s leading swimwear retailer continues partnership with award-winning PR firm

CALGARY – (Sept. 25, 2014) – Award-winning PR agency, Brookline Public Relations Inc. (Brookline), is delighted to announce it has been selected to serve as Swimco’s public relations agency of record for a third consecutive year.

Swimco, Western Canada’s leading swimwear retailer, experienced great success and growth over the course of the past year, most notably with the launch of its online shopping platform in May. The e-commerce site marked a huge step forward for the company, providing all Canadians with the opportunity to shop its most celebrated vacation and fitness lines of swimwear products for women, men and children. Swimco was also pleased to host Pick Your Paradise, a media event that showcased the season’s trends with a fashion show and social media contest. Attendees were able to visit “vacation stations” and chat with Swimco Fit Experts about finding the perfect suit.

“We are very excited to be working with Brookline again this year,” said Lori Bacon, President of Swimco. “At Swimco, we believe that everybody and every body deserves a swimsuit that lets them feel confident about themselves and Brookline continues to help us with spreading this vision throughout Canada. The Brookline team always goes above and beyond, especially when it comes to delivering professional and creative services.”

Since it was established in 1975, Swimco has become the largest swimwear retailer in Western Canada. Swimco prides itself on providing exceptional customer service to shoppers and Fit Experts are always available to answer customer questions and help ensure a positive swimwear shopping experience. The upcoming year will see Brookline continuing to support Swimco on event management and media relations across Canada.

“Swimco is such a well-respected retailer in Western Canada and we are thrilled to be working with them again,” said Shauna MacDonald, Principal and Founder of Brookline. “It is always a pleasure to work alongside the Swimco team and we look forward to delivering fresh and solid results for them throughout the upcoming year.”

Southland Transportation hosts “Safely Home” school bus event

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2014

Brookline recently had the opportunity to assist Southland Transportation, a division of Pacific Western Transportation (PWT), with planning a unique back to school event that focused on providing school bus safety tips for parents, teachers and students – just in time for the start of the school year. The event also served to educate the public on Southland’s new “Safely Home” promise, which is a comprehensive commitment to safety in everything the organization does.

To demonstrate the level of concentration and training required by school bus operators, event attendees had the opportunity to test drive a Southland school bus through a training course and maneuver the bus through different obstacles. The training course focused on activities Southland operators complete safely on a daily basis when transporting children to and from school.

The Mobile Training Unit (MTU), a training simulator that Southland uses to train drivers on safety preparedness, was also available for demonstrations. Event participants had the opportunity to test their driving skills in the simulator while faced with a variety of inclement weather situations, preoccupied drivers on the road and other distractions.

Calgary Police Services (CPS) participated at the event by providing information to media on the harmonization of school and playground time zone, which went into effect September 1, 2014. They also assisted with communicating key safety messages provided by Southland Transportation.

10 important tips that were provided at the event to support school bus safety include:

  • Arrive at your bus stop on time.
  • Stay 10 feet away from the street. Anything closer to that is called the “danger zone.”
  • Never run in front of the bus.
  • Watch where you are going when you get on the bus.
  • Use the railings.
  • Be patient, don’t push and don’t shove.
  • Stay seated and facing forward on the bus.
  • Keep your head, hands and other objects inside the bus at all times.
  • Always remember to wait until the bus stops before standing up and leaving your seat.
  • Look both ways before getting on and off the bus.

Even the Brookline team took part in the training which included a school bus driving test…and in true Brookline fashion, we passed with flying colours!

Wishing a Happy 50th Birthday to Westbrook Mall

Tuesday, September 16th, 2014

This year, Westbrook Mall celebrated its 50th Birthday and invited the city of Calgary to celebrate. Brookline was excited to partake in the festivities and help organize a great family-fun afternoon at the shopping centre.

Over the past 50 years, Calgary and Westbrook Mall have changed so much. Back in 1964, when the mall first opened, My Fair Lady and Mary Poppins were the biggest movies. The Beatles made their first appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show and the Toronto Maple Leafs won the Stanley Cup for the second last time in the team’s history.

Even though 1964 was a great time in history, Westbrook Mall wanted to celebrate 2014 and its 50th Birthday by inviting all of Calgary for a great party. The day was filled with delicious treats with YYC Food Trucks and the Stampede Caravan…

Live entertainment, singing and jokes from the always entertaining Heebee-Jeebees…

And fun activities for kids of all ages including a petting zoo, inflatable games, mini golf and mural art!

We had an amazing time celebrating Westbrook Mall’s 50th Birthday Party and look forward to what the future will bring for this great community centre!
