YWCA of Clagary WHYWHISPER Gala Blog Post

Friday, November 30th, 2012

On November 15th, 2012 over 700 Calgarians gathered at the Telus Convention Centre for the second annual YWCA of Calgary WHYWHISPER Gala to hear the legendary female feminist, Gloria Steinem speak. The Annual Gala once again encouraged Calgarians to speak up and speak out for the city’s most vulnerable.  Brookline had the opportunity to handle media relations for the event.

Brookline hosted a media roundtable at 4:00p.m., where media were invited to come and ask Gloria Steinem and Sue Tomney, CEO at the YWCA of Calgary questions.  Gloria not only answered the media’s questions, but she offered many valuable insights and a sneak peek of some of her key speaking points for the evening.

The Gala kicked off at 7:00p.m. with a delicious dinner followed by Gloria Steinem’s amazing keynote speech. After Gloria’s speech she was joined on stage with the Honourable Alison Redford. The conversation was an engaging set of questions and answers moderated by the lively Barb Higgins.

Over $540,000 was raised at this year’s event and those funds will help to enable the YWCA of Calgary to intervene when and where women need them most; to empower women with new skill sets; and provide leadership opportunities to break the cycle of poverty, abuse, and homelessness.

Brookline was proud to once again work with the YWCA of Calgary and be part of this year’s amazing WHYWHISPER Gala.
