2009 Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure

Sunday, October 4th, 2009

It was the fifth year for Brookline Public Relations managing the media relations for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure, which raised more than $1.24 million dollars in Calgary for breast cancer education, awareness and research.

On a snowy Sunday, October 4th the 18th annual Run saw more than 8,000 participants brave the blizzard and run or walk one or five kilometers in support of breast cancer. The power of survivorship pink shone through the powdery white flakes with bright costumes, smiles and various sponsors, volunteers and supporters spreading joy for the grand occasion.

The Heebee-jeebees, a local quartet, were back bundled up with cheer and pink gear to entertain everyone’s hearts with catchy tunes and hilarious commentary. The Ad-Hoc band played some recognizable beats which warmed up participants before and after the event.

Catriona Le May Doan, two-time Olympic Gold Medalist and Honorary Chairperson, offered up inspiration and led the run for the fifth time.

Brookline was honoured to be included in the organization of such a widely recognized and accomplished event.
