Supporting Children’s Eye Health: Brookline’s Work with the Alberta Association of Optometrists

Posted on October 15, 2025

At Brookline, we’re proud to partner with organizations that make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. This year, we’ve had the privilege of working alongside the Alberta Association of Optometrists (AAO) to amplify awareness of its Eye See… Eye Learn™ program, an initiative that promotes eye exams and free prescription eyeglasses to kindergarten-aged children across Alberta when needed.

Our goal was to bring the Eye See… Eye Learn™ program to the attention of more families, whether in urban centres, rural towns, or newcomer communities, so that no child starts their learning journey at a disadvantage because of undetected vision issues. Vision health is foundational to a child’s classroom experience, and this program plays an important role in ensuring that kindergarteners can see, learn and thrive.

With recent changes to Alberta Health’s optometry coverage, highlighting the program’s free eyeglasses offer has been especially important. By showcasing the program’s value, we have been helping parents and guardians better understand the financial and educational benefits of participating through:

  • Influencer Relations -To reach parents directly, we have teamed up with family-focused influencers across Alberta. Their authentic storytelling has brought the importance of children’s vision health into everyday conversations and expanded the program’s reach to target demographics.
  • Media Relations – We have also been leveraging our media expertise to generate interest and coverage for the Eye See… Eye Learn™ program. By engaging media outlets, we have spotlighted the crucial role vision plays in a child’s educational success and positioned the AAO as a trusted voice in children’s health and wellbeing.
  • Design and Collateral Development – Brookline has also been supporting the campaign by refreshing the program’s visual materials in both English and French to ensure they are engaging and accessible. We created:
  • A redesigned brochure
  • Flyers, postcards, and posters
  • Other collateral including FAQs and letters for use in optometry offices, classrooms and at home

Through strategic communications, media outreach, influencer partnerships and design, Brookline is proud to support the Alberta Association of Optometrists in its mission to ensure that every child in Alberta starts school with the clear vision they need to succeed. The Eye See… Eye Learn™ program is an investment in children’s futures, and we’re honoured to play a role in helping families across Alberta learn about it.
