Hittin’ the Road in Style Thanks to Universal Ford Lincoln

Brookline is excited to be working with Ford of Canada once again and we are looking forward to supporting their Southern Alberta grassroots public relations activities. We’ve supported the iconic brand with some exciting projects these past six months and we are thrilled to share some highlights in the following weeks. Enjoy the read, we sure enjoyed the road!

When driving on Alberta roads, safety is the first thing on everyone’s mind. So, when we had to hit the road in the middle of winter and head to Edmonton for a client media event, our first thought was we need a safe, reliable vehicle. We are precious cargo after all!

We took the opportunity to experience a brand new 2017 Lincoln MKC loaned to us by Universal Ford Lincoln here in Calgary. For two ladies who own dated, shall we say, vehicles, we were tickled pink and jumped at the chance to safely travel in style to our northern neighbouring city.

Technology has come a long way in vehicles with Ford offering an array of new technology across their lineup, and the 2017 Lincoln MKC is no exception. While driving the burgundy beauty, we noticed the lane keeping system which monitors road lane markings and helps drivers detect unintentional drifting outside of a lane. If the camera detects an impending unintentional drift, the system can use the steering system and the instrument cluster display to alert and aid drivers to stay in their lane. Needless to say, we had fun testing it out, safely of course!

Yes! We were listening to rap oldies!

The Lincoln MKC made a dull highway drive to Edmonton a real treat for us and we securely arrived on time for our media event and couldn’t wait to get back on the road in our luxury ride!

Brookline helps Cabela’s launch first mainland BC location in Abbotsford

Cabelas 1

Working with national and international brands, Brookline is no stranger to our clients having avid fans, but none more so than the fanatical Cabela’s supporters. Last fall, we had the pleasure of opening the first Cabela’s in Calgary, which included several thousand people lining up to browse the store on the day of grand opening, giveaways, a ribbon-arrowing and more smiling, diehard fans than we could imagine. When we were recently tasked with preparing the Cabela’s team and managing media relations for the grand opening of the Abbotsford location – we knew exactly what to expect.

Two weeks prior to the public grand opening, Brookline was on-the-ground in Abbotsford to provide media training, both education and on-camera practice, and run an invite-only media preview. Many of Lower Mainland’s most well-known bloggers and influencers from several specialities were in attendance, including those focused on parenting, lifestyle, events and outdoors sports. They were joined by local print, online and TV outlets to preview the 70,000 square foot outdoors mecca.

A quick two weeks later, Brookline was onsite for the grand opening festivities, which saw thousands of people through the doors on opening day, some lining up several days in advance to be at the front of the line. There were product giveaways, gift cards for those who showed up early to wait in line, samples of the house-made fudge and nuts, a DJ, Cabela’s Ambassadors (well-known outdoors personalities) and the traditional Cabela’s ribbon-cutting in which the ribbon is cut with an arrow fired from a tree stand in the parking lot. Did we mention it was raining? In typical-BC fashion, the rain didn’t keep anyone away, especially the outdoors-enthusiasts loyal to Cabela’s. Local media was onsite for the grand opening, which resulted in print and online video coverage of the event. As always, it was a sight to behold!

Don’t forget to look up at Cabela’s Abbotsford – there’s a Sasquatch in the trees!

Not All Scams are Cut and Dry

Friday, November 27th, 2015

Alison Walker, Account Specialist

When most people hear the word fraud, they typically think of the usual suspects – identity theft, a phone call about a free cruise, or everyone’s favourite, the Nigerian prince scam. But the Alberta Securities Commission (ASC) wants to remind Albertans that “not all scams are cut and dry”.

Barbershop 1

To share that message, the ASC enlisted Brookline’s help to take over a barbershop in downtown Calgary. On Thursday, November 5, 2015, Brookline and the ASC transformed Denim & Smith Barbershop in Bankers Hall into the CheckFirst Barbershop.

Barbershop 2

Guests were treated to free haircuts and trims over the lunch hour, as well as some smart advice on how to make safe investment decisions. To fit with the theme, Calgary’s own Heebee Jeebees also dressed up as a barbershop quartet and sang a custom jingle written just for the ASC.

Barbershop 3

The activation garnered solid media attention, earning coverage from the Calgary Herald, Global TV, Breakfast Television, CTV, CBC Calgary, CBC Edmonton, 660 News, and News Talk 770. The ASC also issued an Alberta-wide press release coinciding with the CheckFirst Barbershop to make sure all Albertans heard the message on how to protect themselves from fraud.

Barbershop 4

November is Financial Literacy Month, making the CheckFirst Barbershop a timely reminder that Albertans should always do their homework before investing to ensure they don’t become victims of an investment scam. Visit www.checkfirst.ca for more information on how you can protect yourself from investment fraud.
